The sun is coming back out and as we draw closer to August the swarm of worker bees (that is the 9-5ers being us) attuned to working from home while simultaneously home-schooling the brats (I mean the kids!) are slowly coming to the realisation that they have yet to take a real break. If you put yourself in this category, you may be happy to know that some countries now returning to a semblance of norm have already started opening up their borders. Today we're sifting through the top 5 destinations, that we would recommend for a self-isolating-lockdown-miserable-weather-free break:
A Lawyer in her previous life, the copious hours of scrutinising law text books, case law and wikipedia have resulted in the birth of a creature, whose capability to research into the paths less trodden, surpasses most seasoned travellers.
For equal parts sun, blue-flag and white sand beaches, old town charm and mountains of adventure close by, I would definitely recommend Croatia as a place to visit. Croatia currently has its borders open to tourists from the UK, but you are required to provide proof of accommodation booking upon landing.
The great thing about Croatia, especially for the Covid-19 cautious, is that the majority of accommodation on offer is apartment-based, so no need to worry about sharing hotel facilities with other guests. It's also fairly easy and very cheap to hire a car and drive in Croatia and I would definitely recommend over public transport to get to some of the major national parks, such as Plitvice Lakes.
Hotels, restaurants, beaches and national parks have started reopening to the public.
This one might come as a shocker, but it seems that Italy's strict and swift lockdown may have been the right call as Italy's borders are now well and truly open to UK visitors and best of all you don't need to self-isolate upon arrival (there are a couple of exclusions to this, see here for details). I can just imagine myself flying into the countryside of Tuscany, huddle in my own little corner of greenery with rows of vineyards on the horizon, as I sip on a delightful glass of red and enjoy the cooling effects of my private pool.
Turkey has opened its borders to international visitors, including the UK. UK tourists will not need a visa to gain entry (yipee), nor will they need to self-isolate upon arrival, but they will need to complete a passenger locator form. However this is a small price to pay considering the record low-cost flight tickets available at the moment!
