The internet can be a blessing and a curse. Most of those working from home right now are probably taking one look at their email inbox and thinking it’s the latter. But allow us to bring to the forefront, today, the more pleasant side of the internet and all things technology. See, we might not be able to leave our houses for more than a daily dose of exercise, but with the help of virtual reality, videos and Google Earth; our minds can travel much further than our feet during this pandemic.
A Lawyer in her previous life, the copious hours of scrutinising law text books, case law and wikipedia have resulted in the birth of a creature, whose capability to research into the paths less trodden, surpasses most seasoned travellers.
1. Arts & Culture From Around The World
For the artsy, cultural type in all of us - probably scratching the four walls of your room, dying for a dose of inspiration to spark your creativity, as I write this - a quick virtual visit to a museum, theatre production or opera show may do just the trick and with access being mostly free, you get to continue to save your pretty pennies during the pandemic:
2. No Desert, No Problem
For those who have perhaps binged out on their fill of the Walking Dead and want to travel somewhere that appears truly other-worldly, why not head to Namibia through 360 photos or the Grand Canyon for a VR tour from £2.29 Arizona:
3. Party All Night Long
If you regret deleting the House Party App but are still skeptical of its security and privacy features, why not relive the glory days of yesteryear by joining a party with strangers or a live sing-a-long in New York's finest:
4. As Easy As A Walk In The Park
We're not all lucky enough to have a garden to walk around in or a public park nearby and if you're one of those people and you've grown tired of sticking your head out of the window for fresh air but no nice view, well thankfully you can virtually get the same experience by taking a virtual tour of Central Park in New York or instead exploring your choice of over 31 National Parks:
5. Isolation Is Your Comfort Zone
If you're flat out tired of people despite the fact that you've been isolating for the last month and half, don't worry, I get it. Perhaps a new animal friend will do the trick of helping you blow off some steam:
6. Twinkle twinkle little star, oh wait, that's an airplane
It's always the case that when we're least able to enjoy the sun comes out to play in London. However, with all the isolation and downcast emotions which can fly about during a time like this, you may not have noticed it. When it's late and you're feeling down in dumps try to focus on the bright stars, milky way and if you're lucky the northern lights - instead of the dark thoughts that can cloud our mind at this time:
7. Beach please!
With the lockdown extended for another 3 weeks, it can be difficult to catch a bit of the sun at its height to start working on your tan! Well I don't have a remedy for this I'm afraid and while I can't bring the sun into your living room, you can bring the beach to the four walls of your humble abode using these virtual and live screens of popular beaches:
8. Kids - can't live with them, can't live with them!
For any parent having to home school your children at this time while simultaneously trying to work - I feel for you. Lift off some of the crazy by combining a holiday like setting with some free history education thrown in:
